The Sounds of Silence Are Deafening

It's strange and disturbing to me that Muslim's using the excuse of the alleged desecration of the Koran, and alleged abuses at Gitmo, become so outraged that they are incited to riot, in two countries, killing 17 fellow Muslims.

Yet, when hijackers crashed planes into the WTC, and the Pentagon, declaring themselves to be holy warriors of Islam, Muslim outrage was too well contained.

When Al Zarquawi declared that the killing of innocent children and women was condoned by Jihad, Muslim outrage was also too well contained.

When these same jihadists kidnapped Ms Hassan, who ran CARE, and looked after Iraqi KIDS for years, Muslim outrage was too well contained.

When civilians trying to rebuild Iraq, or when democratically elected Iraqi officials, or Iraqi security forces and police officers are targeted and killed DAILY, Muslim outrage is yet again very well contained.

The sounds of silence are deafening.

But ONE article, and a false one at that, in that POS rag Newsweek, and suddenly Muslim outrage manifests itself as a riots in two countries.

And now, from Irshad Manji, I find out that Muslims worldwide are scheduling demonstrations for the end of this month against those who insult Islam.

They'll peacefully protest not just the possibility of the Koran's desecration at Guantanamo but the proven torture at Abu Ghraib as well as civil rights violations suffered by ordinary Muslims in the United States. According to Irshad, they have every right to condemn these injuries.

Irshad Manji is author of "The Trouble With Islam Today". It's a great book - an honest look at the problems indemic to Islam from an insider. I have alot of respect for Irshad - she is a lesbian feminist Muslim, an outspoken critic of those who claim the Koran is authorative and unsullied and the literal word of God, who has had a fatwa issued against her by HER OWN PEOPLE.

Yet, I have to admit, I'm disappointed when she says " Muslims everywhere are questioning America's respect for all religions" and even more disappointed when she says that Muslims have a right to condemn these injuries.

Which INJURIES? And what violations have ordinary Muslims suffered in the US?
What about the injuries and violations inflicted on Muslims by OTHER MUSLIMS????

Muslims everywhere have NOT ONCE CONDEMNED THE INJURIES INFLICTED BY THEIR OWN PEOPLE ON THEIR OWN PEOPLE INCLUDING HIJACKING ISLAM, THE MASS MURDERS OF FELLOW MUSLIMS, AND THE LUDICROUS ASSERTION THAT JIHAD CONDONES THE KILLING OF INNOCENT WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

Muslims everywhere have NOT ONCE QUESTIONED THE LACK OF RESPECT THAT THEIR OWN PEOPLE AND THEIR OWN COUNTRIES HAVE FOR THE RELIGION OF ISLAM! THEY HAVE NOT ONCE QUESTIONED THE LACK OF RESPECT THEY HAVE FOR CHRISTIANITY AND JUDAISM!
YET THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO QUESTION THE RESPECT AMERICA HAS FOR ISLAM???

ARE WE BOMBING MOSQUES?
ARE WE KILLING MUSLIM WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN THE NAME OF HOLY WAR?
ARE WE BEHEADING CARE WORKERS, AND BURNING DOWN THE BUILDINGS OF AID WORKERS?
ARE WE PREVENTING MUSLIMS FROM PRACTICING ANY FORM OF THEIR FAITH IN THE U.S. EVEN AS IT ENCOURAGES THEM TO KILL US???
ARE WE BOMBING JEWISH TEMPLES IN OUR OWN COUNTRY?
OR ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD FOR THAT MATTER??
ARE WE DESECRATING OTHER RELIGIOUS TEMPLES?

HOW DARE THEY QUESTION OUR RESPECT FOR ISLAM? And how could you, Irshad, of all people agree that they have a right to?

How dare they hold demonstrations peaceful or not to condemn Abu G?
And once again, Irshad, how could you of all people agree they have a right too? WE HAVE TRIED AND SENTENCED THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE HEINOUS CRIMES. And we did it in the light of day for the whole world to see, which is more than ANY Arab country has done with those guilty of far greater crimes; and do not pretend that any prisoner in ANY Arab prison is treated kindly and not tortured!!!!

How dare they hold demonstrations to condemn alleged abuses at Gitmo, when they refuse to hold demonstrations against those that HIJACKED THEIR RELIGION OR AGAINST THE VERY GOVERNMENTS THAT DENY THEM DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOMS INALIENABLE TO ALL!! And, Irshad, how can YOU condone this?

HOW DARE THEY QUESTION OUR RESPECT FOR OTHER RELIGIONS!!

Do you really want me to believe that Muslims CARE ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT AMERICA RESPECTS OTHER RELIGIONS WHEN MUSLIMS HAVE BEEN TARGETING AND KILLING CHRISTIANS AND JEWS, WHEN SHIAS AND SUNNIES AND KURDS, ALL MUSLIMS, ARE KILLING ONE ANOTHER?!?!

Do Muslims see Jews, Hindus, Catholics,Budhhists, Christians, or even Athiests rioting in our streets or ANYWHERE else in the world against America's lack of religious respect?

When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, we rounded up every Japanese person in the country and interned them. We didnt spend anytime hiring them lawyers, and debating if our actions were "fair" or "ethically right" or "morally right", or if they were entitled to rights afforded them as US citizens! It was a time of war! The Japanese had bombed our shores, and we could no longer trust any Japanese living in the US!

TODAY, we are at war, and yet we have NOT interned and denied basic rights to Muslims living in the US.

We have instead detained those we suspect of being terrorists. Perhaps we have detained them longer than you, most Muslims and some Americans feel is fair, but war isnt always fair.

Is it "fair" that Muslim extremists kill children and claim its sanctioned by Jihad?
Is it fair that planes were hijacked and flown into buildings killing thousands of people as they started work?
Is it fair that Muslim jihadists disguise themselves as civilians, and blow themselves up in an outdoor market murdering innocent people, and is it fair that they hide in the shadows, and refuse to fight our troups as soldiers SHOULD HONORABLY DO, mano a mano, but instead plant hidden bombs in the road that kill our troups, Iraqi police forces, and any innocent bystander, and is it "fair" that they assassinate elected Iraqi govt officials, blow up mosques, churches, and police stations??

In the grande scheme of FAIR.....who has been the most unfair Irshad.... Muslims or Americans?
Before you condone their peaceful protests directed only at America, why not demand that your fellow Muslims protest against the Muslims that DESECRATE ISLAM DAILY in the name of misguided political ideals! At least we KNOW that the desecration they have inflicted is NOT ALLEGED, but all too real.

I find that so strange and so sad coming from someone who once said that she was not fighting Islam, but rather the routinely low expectations from those who practice it!
